Wilmington Facilities

In 1919, Covey & Allen purchased a general store from William A. Brown which was located across the street from what is currently Dot's Restaurant. At that time an "undertaking establishment" was started by Mr. Allen while Mr. Covey attended primarily to the store and livery work.

The purchase of what is now known as the Heritage Building in downtown Wilmington was completed in 1929 at which time Covey & Allen moved from the Brown Building.

Harold Allen died in 1935 and Leon Covey purchased Mr. Allen's share of the business and continued to operate the "funeral parlor," general store, and later an ambulance service.

Leon was joined in 1968 by his grandson Robert, becoming a full partner in 1971. In 1974, an extensive renovation project was initiated which would conclude in 1979.

In 1985, Mark Shea became the manager of Covey & Allen. He and his wife Lisa purchased the business in 2004 along with Hanson-Walbridge Bennington, Hanson-Walbridge Arlington, and Brewster Funeral Service Manchester. It is know known as Covey, Allen & Shea Funeral & Cremation Service.

This 1939 Packard Henney hearse was delivered to the F.J. Paine Funeral Home in Rochester, Minnesota on July 1, 1939.
