Thomas Bourgeois

June 21, 1948 — January 23, 2026

Manchester Center

Thomas Henry Bourgeois, 77, of Manchester Center, VT died peacefully at the Granville Center in Granville, NY on January 23, 2026 ending a long illness.

He was born in Waltham, MA to Dorothea (Gill) and Henry Bourgeois. He attended elementary and secondary school in Somerville, MA; and attended UMass Boston. He moved to Bennington County, Vermont in 1991 and resided the last two decades of his life in Manchester.

Tom leaves behind his domestic partner of 21 years, Catherine Lundy Stewart of Manchester Center, VT; siblings David Bourgeois (Laura) of Charlestown, MA and Ruth Bourgeois (Carol) of Sacramento, CA; three children, Jill Marie Bourgeois of Cotuit, MA, Thomas Dante Bourgeois of Prosper, TX (Kathleen) and Andrea Gray Bourgeois of Horseshoe, NC. He also had three grandchildren, Nicholas Andreottola, Aura Bourgeois and Russell Holbert. Tom had two prior marriages, to Joyce (Paliuca) Bourgeois of Cotuit, MA and to Cinthia Coburn of Horseshoe, NC. Tom considered Cathy’s children his too: Stewart Douglas Pomeroy (Chelsea), Emily Vaughn Schneider (Craig) and Amy Mahealani Hammond (Brandan); and Grandchildren: Paxton McCormick, Isla Schneider, and Graham Schneider.

He was an observer of nature, finding joy in the smallest details - whether it was watching ants tackle a wasp on the railing, observing birds flittering between the trees and the feeder, or spotting a fox crouching in the tall grass with its ears standing erect above the grass as it listened towards the house. Beyond his quiet observations, Tom was always eager to lend a hand to neighbors and friends; whether it was the heavy work of felling trees or shoveling snow or the simple kindness of washing the dishes. He genuinely enjoyed being helpful to those around him. Tom was also an avid sports fan. He would have been over-the-moon excited for the New England Patriots this season. If he were still with us, he would undoubtedly be hosting a Super Bowl party, complete with all of his favorite rituals and superstitions.
