It is with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sherrie Jean Baker on Thursday December 11th, 2025, after a brief battle with cancer which she fought with unwavering courage and grace.
Born August 1st, 1958, in Tomahawk Wisconsin to Rusell Seidler and Patricia Olsen, Sherrie’s early life was spent in Wisconsin, Fairbanks Alaska, and finally Dorset Vermont. Graduating from Burr and Burton Seminary in 1975, one year early at the age of 16. Sherrie began her journey becoming a successful chef, and business owner. Sherrie touched many lives in many ways, an inspiration to anyone who was lucky enough to know her.
Sherrie was preceded in death by her parents, Patricia and Russ.
From her early days in the kitchen at The Barrows House to her homestyle restaurant, The Buttery on the third floor of the Jelley Mill, her love for cooking, work ethic, and zest for life was clear to see. You may have had breakfast at Sherries Café or The Station and tasted her famous hollandaise or had a star lit dinner at the Dorset Field Club or maybe you even brought home a meal to share with your family from Al Ducci’s or Mach’s Market. The flavors of her love have touched many.
Sherrie is survived by her husband Dale of 39 years with whom she raised their two sons Nick (Lauren), and Zach (Brea). She was the oldest of six and is survived by her sisters Ronda Ihaz (Adam), Dawn Miholca (Alex), Laurie Seidler, Cippy Seidler (Travis), Virginia Greenblatt, brother Michael Phillips (Angela), lastly her stepmother Honey. Sherrie also leaves her in laws, Tim and Mary Baker, Kellie Waite (Matt), Vickie Haskins (Pete). Sherrie was a guiding light to many nieces and nephews. Everyone loved to go to Aunt Sherrie’s for a sleepover or an afternoon cookout.
Sherrie was passionate about many things but family was at the top of any list. Sherrie and Dale took many memorable trips, renovated three homes to make them their own, and planted unique gardens filled with vibrant colors. Hearing about the delicious meals Zach created following in her footsteps and letting everyone know when Nick’s log truck passed Mach’s Market as she chopped onions in the back always made her day. Sherrie and Dale were proud of the men they raised. Sherrie wore many hats and played many roles but her favorite and most fulfilling title was Grandma. Christmas brings many memories, decorating cookies with her grandson Jesse, smiling and singing along as holiday music filled the house. Sherrie was big part of many lives, none more important than the bond she shared with her granddaughter, Gatlin Rose, who will forever remember their special bond.
Sherrie always had plenty to give, donating time at the church, lending a hand at your home, she was always there and loved to do it. Her guidance resonated with many. Giving advice not only as a chef but also willing to help with a personal obstacle. Let us remember her for all the lovely experiences she shared with us and continue her legacy of great food and unconditional love.
At Sherrie’s request, funeral services and a celebration of life will be held in the Summer 2026. Details will be provided at a future date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Sherrie’s name to The United Church of Dorset and East Rupert.
