Ruth Ella Sweet

Mrs. Ruth Ella Sweet, 78 a resident of Jacks Drive passed away on Sunday morning May 2, 2021 at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center following a brief illness. The daughter of the late Arthur and Lillian (Stratton) Watson , she was born in Bennington on June 8, 1942. Ruth attended the schoolhouse on Crossover Road and graduated from Bennington High School. She married Jack Sweet in Bennington in August 1960, he passed on March 21, 2020 . In earlier years Ruth had worked at the former Thompson Manufacturing Company , for many years she had assisted her husband in operation Jack Sweet's Rubbish Removal Company where she maintained the office duties and bookkeeping. She enjoyed camping with family, shopping trips with her daughter Tina and her daily telephone conversations with her sisters , often calling each other many times a day. She will be remembered for the joy she found in her family, especially the younger members and the love of her dogs which she referred to as "her babies". She leaves her sons Walter Sweet and wife Julie, John Sweet and wife Patty, her daughter Tina Pierce and husband Gerry all of Bennington, sisters Mary Garen and Betty Lackey both of Bennington, grandchildren Nathan Sweet, Josh Root, Molly Sweet, Justin Sweet, Krystal Pierce, Laurie Pierce and Sarah Gagnon, 15 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild . In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a sister Ora Joseph, brothers Ralph Watson, Edward Watson and Tommy Watson. Graveside funeral services will be held on Friday May 7 at 1pm at the family lot in White Chapel Cemetery with Pastor Richard Setzer officiating. Friends may call at the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home on Friday from 11:30 until 12:30.
