Maryellen Catherine Young, 67, a resident of Hunt Street passed away March 18, 2021 unexpectedly at her home. Maryellen was born in Adams, Massachusetts on September 22, 1953 the daughter of Herbert and Helen (Strzepk )Roemelt and attended local schools and upon high school graduation, received two Bachelor Degrees. Maryellen worked as a Medical Technologist for Putnam Hospital and Southwestern Vermont Medical Center for 41 years. She received the 1992 Lioness of the Year Award from the Lions Club, chaired The Nineth Annual Arts and Crafts fair in Bennington, was awarded the 1994 Quest Award at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and obtained her sixth Sigma Green Belt at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in 2012. She volunteered for GBICS in Bennington and volunteered for several church committees for the Shaftsbury Methodist Church. Maryellen is survived by her husband William Brant Young of Bennington, mother Helen Roemelt, sister-in-law Denise Roemelt, her nephew Michael Roemelt and his wife Edda, nephew Bryan Roemelt, great nephews Jason and Bennett Roemelt all of Glenville, NY, several cousins and 2 spoiled cats. She was preceded in death by her father Herbert Roemelt and her brother Paul Roemelt. Funeral services for Maryellen will be held Tuesday March 23, 2021 at 1pm at Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home 213 West Main Street Bennington, VT. Interment will follow in the family lot in Grandview Cemetery in Shaftsbury. Visiting hours at the funeral home will be held Tuesday March 23, 2021 from 11am-1pm, 2hours prior to the service. If friends desire, memorial gifts in Maryellen’s memory may be made to Shaftsbury United Methodist Church or 2nd Chance Animal Shelter, c/o Hanson-Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home P.O.
