Mrs. Mabel Frances Crofut, 92 a resident of West Arlington passed away peacefully at her home on Friday morning August 6, 2021. The daughter of William L. and Pauline (Ennis) Johnson. she was born at home in East Arlington on August 27, 1928. Mrs. Crofut grew up in Arlington where she attended local schools, graduating from Arlington Memorial High School, Class of 1946, she continued her education attending Albany Business College. She married Roy Crofut in Bennington on October 30, 1947, Mr. Crofut passed away January 9, 2014. Mrs. Crofut was an active member of the Battenkill Grange #487for 70 years, holding many positions in the organization, she along with her husband had chaired the Bingo games for many years. Throughout her life she had worked in many capacities in various local business’. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially taking day trips and occasional bus trips to favorite destinations. Mrs. Crofut loved her home where she kept everything “just so” taking time to decorate and put on the Sunday family dinners and hosting holidays events. She also enjoyed completing word search puzzles and in her younger years, square dancing with her husband. She will be remembered as an awesome cook and fantastic mother and grandmother . She was fortunate to spend a few enjoyable winters in Florida. She leaves her son Glenn Crofut and wife Brenda of West Arlington, daughters Donna Young and husband Dennis of Bennington, Brenda Holton and husband Richard of Arlington and Susan Hoyt and companion Edward Vosburg of Arlington, eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Morse. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 10 at the Arlington Chapel of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home at 1pm. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from noon until 1pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the family lot in West Arlington Cemetery , all are invited to the Crofut home following the service. Memorial gifts may be made to the Battenkill Grange #487 in care of the Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home, P.O. Box 528, Arlington, VT 05250. The family is extremely appreciative of the help she received from the Arlington Rescue Squad and VNA & Hospice of Southwestern Vermont which allowed her to stay in her home.
