Lucille Stone Rice, 88 of Bennington and formerly of Wilmington, VT, passed away Saturday October 25, 2025 at the Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, MA. Lucille was born in Greenfield, MA on April 5, 1937, the daughter of Floyd and Kathryn (Moxley) Stone. She was a 1955 graduate of Whitingham High School and a 1959 graduate of Castleton Teachers College. She met her husband to be, Harold Rice, while working at the Creemee Stand in Wilmington. Harold and Lucille were married on August 1, 1959 in the Jacksonville Church.
Lucille taught school in Townshend, VT and Whitingham, VT then stayed at home for awhile to raise her family. She owned and operated Valley Answering Service for sixteen years, retiring in 1999. Lucille then owned and operated Country Gift Outlet with her son Vincent, eventually selling the business in 2010.
She was a member of the Mayflower Chapter #19 O.E.S. where she was Past Matron, the Mothers Club, a Wilmington School Board Member and helped with the 4-H
Lucille is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; Vicki and Peter Wilson; two sons, Timothy Rice of Groton, CT and Vincent Rice of Wilmington, VT, her brother-in-law; John Rice of Live Oak, FL, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Lucille was predeceased by her sister, Corrine Boyd, brothers, Marshall Stone and Carl Stone and a brother-in-law, Steven Rice.
Funeral services for Lucille will be held on Thursday November 6, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Wilmington Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Riverview Cemetery in Wilmington, VT.
