Judith Ann Houghton nee Jepson, age 95, passed away peacefully in Bennington on June 3, 2026.
Judith was born in Bronx, New York on September 18, 1930, to Wilson Seymour Jepson and Ada Marie Veronica Jepson.
She attended Arlington Memorial High School in Arlington, Vermont. After high school she worked at the Green Mountain Diner in Arlington and also as a switchboard operator until she married the love of her life, James Edward Houghton on August 23, 1950.
They went on to have seven children.
Judith loved animals of all kinds. She had numerous pets, especially dogs, and she would often talk about her beloved cavalry horse, Midgy that she had in high school.
She loved to spend her time crafting, gardening and making beautiful quilts and was an avid self-taught oil painter, even winning best in show in art competitions. She always encouraged people to have a hobby.
She is survived by her children, Bruce Houghton and wife Cynthia of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mary Higginbotham and husband Philip of Russellville, Ohio, John Houghton and wife Melinda of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Robert Houghton and wife Melanie of Wilmington, Ohio, Jennifer Houghton of Manchester, VT, Susan Houghton of Danby, VT, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, James Houghton, her son David Houghton and her sister Susan Zoesch
Funeral Service will be held at Hanson Walbridge and Shea funeral home on June 9 at 2 p.m. with viewing hours being held from 1-2 p.m.
Any donations should be sent to the Second Chance animal shelter in Judith ‘s memory, in care of Hanson Walbridge and Shea funeral home
