Jason Wicks

December 4, 1959 — November 14, 2025

Bennington

Jason Sand Wicks, 65, passed away on November 14th, 2025, surrounded by his family after a two year battle with ALS. He was born in Huntington, New York on December 4th, 1959 to William Wicks and the late Flora (Sand) Wicks. He enjoyed ten years in Long Island before his family moved to Bennington, Vermont in 1969 and established Wickstock Farm. The farm was Jason’s favorite place to be, and one could often find him cutting hay in the fields, tinkering in the shop, or helping a friend.

He graduated from Mount Anthony Union High School and proceeded to travel cross country at 18. He had many jobs over the years; building tractor trailer truck bodies and selling snowplows for his own business W.I.X. Inc in 1986, working as a maintenance mechanic for Hollingsworth & Vose, plant supervisor at Dailey’s Precast, and, most recently, a maintenance mechanic for over 10 years at Saint Gobain. On his way home from work, he’d typically stop at Stewart’s for a chocolate shake.

He married Melissa (Marshall) Wicks in 1991 and enjoyed 32 years of marriage at their house in Shaftsbury, Vermont. Together, they had two daughters, Shelby and MaKenzie. He loved his dogs, from Irish Setters to Australian Shepherds. He always rolled his eyes when his family would bring another home, and yet he was always happiest when he could go throw the frisbee with one of his dogs.

Jason loved fast cars, especially a Trans Am, just like Smokey and the Bandit. He was a talented welder who crafted hay wagons, trailers, benches, and more throughout his life. If Jason made it, you could be sure of three things: it was beautiful work, it was near indestructible, and it weighed a ton.

Jason is survived by his two daughters; Shelby Wicks and MaKenzie Wicks, his sister; Lisa Wicks, his brothers; William R. Wicks, and Seth Wicks, his father, William Wicks, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

At the request of the family, there will be no formal funeral services. In lieu of flowers, Jason requested that contributions in his memory be made to the ALS Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project or Catskill Canine Rescue, Inc, through the Hanson-Walbridge-Shea Funeral Home, PO Box 957 Bennington, VT 05201.
