With sadness we announce the passing of James (Jim) Sorice, 94, on August 24, 2026. Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Born on June 20, 1932, to Rose and Anthony Sorice, Jim grew up in Brooklyn playing stickball with his three brothers, Angelo, Bill and his twin, Cosmo. Jim married the love of his life, Kathleen on August 16, 1969, and together they built a comfortable life in a beautiful home with their son Mark. Kathy and Jim are survived by Mark and their two granddaughters, Emilia and Giuliana. Jim enjoyed watching the children grow and adored participating in their art endeavors, especially the annual gingerbread house over Christmas holidays.
Jim, an esteemed Master Scenic Artist and member of Local829, achieved tremendous professional success during his over half century tenure in the movie industry. Distinguished throughout the New York movie business Jim was revered as one of the best and most accomplished artists in film. While creating art professionally, he also took joy in painting recreationally. Jim created many works on canvas and built numerous clocks utilizing his extensive knowledge of woodworking. Jim took pride in amassing antique clocks and his large collection was admired by all. He enjoyed watching all sports, his favorite to watch and play was baseball. Jim will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
