Gordon Stewart of Dorset, VT passed away peacefully, with his family beside him, on January 11, 2019, at the age of 86. He is survived by his family; Connie his wife and high school sweetheart, his son Brooks, daughter Lesley, daughter in law Kern, granddaughter Gabriella, and his sister Julia. Gordon was born in Big Rapids, Michigan. He and his family moved to Westchester County, NY when he was 12 years old. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Yonkers, were he met Connie and they were married for over 60 years. He enlisted in the Navy during the Korean War and went to Naval Air School to become a flight engineer. After the war he lived in Chappaqua, N.Y. with Connie and their two children, Brooks and Lesley, for 20 years. Gordon began his career in the flooring industry and became National Sales Manager for Trend Industries, a large carpet manufacturer. He later served as National Sales Manager, Flooring Division, for Sherwin Williams. After retirement he decided to open his own business, Mountain Carpet, in Manchester. Gordon was an avid sports car enthusiast, owning many different sports cars at one time or another. He was President of the Westchester Sports Car Club and a member of the Porsche Club of America. His other memberships included Dorset Field Club, Ekwanok Country Club, Whippoorrwill CC In Westchester, Seabrook Island Club in S.C. and the Dorset Corn Exchange. He also loved skiing, traveling every weekend to their ski home in Vermont, with his family. He skied at Stratton from it's opening in 1962. Many other trips included skiing in the West and Europe. A choice between retiring to a home they had built in S.C. or returning to VT resulted in coming back to VT and family, to the place they both loved best. Gordon's volunteer work included driving recipients for Neighbor to Neighbor, and working on the Christmas food project for the Inter-Faith Council. Funeral services will be held at Saint Paul's Catholic Church in Manchester on Saturday, January 26th, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Southwestern Vermont Regional Cancer Center, 140 Hospital Drive, Bennington, Vt 05201 or c/o Brewster- Shea Funeral Homes P.O.
