Evelyn Manning

d. May 20, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Evelyn Ann Manning (née Ronhovde) on May 20, 2025.

Evelyn was born within a large and close knit Scandinavian farming family in Motley, Minnesota on the 25th of August, 1932. Her grandparents had immigrated from Norway and Sweden.

She had many fond memories of her Aunts’ farms, playing with her cousins, dressing kittens and hypnotizing chickens. In Minnesota she and her older sister Fern attended a one room schoolhouse. When she was a young girl her small immediate family moved away from their extended family to Michigan. There her father Gus found better opportunities working as a machinist and her mother Ann as a spot welder in the auto industry.

Evelyn met her husband Ronald Manning when they were both teenagers living in Sylvan Village, a charming neighborhood outside of Pontiac, Michigan. They started dating a few years after graduating from High School and were married in 1955.

Evelyn raised her three children, Kelly, Steve and Jean predominantly in Michigan with a brief 3 year stint in Kansas. She worked off and on in administrative jobs for doctors and various business offices. While living in Rochester Hills, Michigan, Evelyn worked 10 years as an insurance claims adjuster.

Evelyn loved the northern Michigan Lakes in the summers and wintering on Bonita Beach in Florida. She was a thoughtful and kind aunt, mother and grandmother who engaged in the lives of her family.

In 2019 Evelyn and Ronald moved to Union, Kentucky to live near their son Kelly and his wife Linda. They both enjoyed the Kentucky rural life on 30 acres surrounded by beautiful farmland and Linda’s family farm life.

Her son Steve and his wife Phyllis cherished her visits to their Colorado home and the many long distance conversations. In the high mountains, even at the age of 90, she was able to walk atop the Continental Divide.

After her husband Ronald passed, Evelyn moved to Bromley Manor in Manchester, Vermont to be near her daughter Jean. There she enjoyed playing cards with her new friends and spending time with Jean and her husband Tim in neighboring Peru, Vermont.

She is survived by her three children Kelly, his wife Linda, Steve, his wife Phyllis and Jean and her husband Tim. Evelyn had seven grandchildren, Chelsea, Kayla, Alex, Evan, Claire, Grace and Owen. Evelyn was the beloved aunt of Lynn, Jane, Dana, Kurt, Brian, Claudia, Kimberly, Tammy and Clifford.

We will miss her gentle spirit, engaging smile and sneaky dry humor.

Whether you were family, close friend or casual acquaintance, Evelyn would always listen and offer soothing words. Anytime with Evelyn always left you in a better place.
