1938-2026

Ann W. Campbell, 87, passed away peacefully at the Vermont Veteran’s Home in Bennington on March 5, 2026. Born in Boston, MA on June 19,1938, she was the only daughter of Ellen and Francis Welch. Ann grew up on the Massachusetts shore where she began her lifelong love of swimming and the sea.

In 1958 Ann married Duncan A. Campbell and moved to Bennington where they raised their two children. She completed her education at Bennington College in 1965 and later graduated from the Putnam Memorial Hospital (PMH) School of Practical Nursing. She served on the boards of The Prospect School, Planned Parenthood, and the League of Women Voters. She was employed at PMH, now Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, for fifteen years. Enjoying the love of her family, travel, friendships, good books, gardening, ponds, pools, and skiing were her greatest pleasures.

Ann was predeceased by her husband and two brothers and leaves her daughter Ellen Campbell and her husband Jim Cook, her son Donald Campbell and his wife Margaret Campbell, all of Bennington, as well as grandchildren Theo Cook, Elsie Campbell, Piper Campbell, and Lila Cook, and her brother Charles of Cambridge, MA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann’s name to the Bennington Free Library or Bennington College.
