    Florence Pool Boyd Newton

Florence Pool Boyd Newton, 101, a resident of Blackberry Lane in Bennington and formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 3, 2010 at Bennington Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bennington. Florence was born in Brant Rock, MA on March 23, 1908 the daughter of William A. Pool, Sr. and Grace Witham Saunders and attended schools in Brant Rock, MA and Marlboro, VT. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1951 while working there as the School Secretary. Florence first married Homer A. Boyd on January 18, 1925 In 1956 Florence and Homer moved to Schenectady, NY from Wilmington, VT after the death of her daughter Marion, to care for Marion’s children. They moved to Pittsfield with her daughter’s family when her son-in-law was relocated. . Mr. Boyd died in 1963. She then married George Newton in December 1968 in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Florence worked as Wilmington Assistant Town Clerk and worked at General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts retiring in 1970.. She moved from Pittsfield and Dalton, MA to Wilmington in 1975.Florence was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Mayflower Chapter #19. She was a very talented artist, especially in oil paintings and enjoyed knitting crocheting, traveling, especially to Florida and Arizona and was a New York Yankee baseball fan. Florence is survived by her daughter Edith Whittaker of Florida, twelve grandchildren and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her sons Neil H. Boyd and Lee Boyd, her daughter Marion LaPenna, her grandsons Richard Tracy and Brett Boyd, her brothers Calvin Pool and William Pool, Jr. and her sisters Edna Carruthers, Marion Akley and Bessie Carlson. Funeral services for Florence will be held at the Wilmington Congregational Church and will be announced later in the spring.
